Tucked away in President Obama's unfortunately named
Climate Action Plan (CAP) is a commitment to investment in a range of energy technologies, from advanced biofuels and emerging nuclear technologies â including small modular reactors.
We seem to have been reporting on this forever, but only first mentioned it in
March 2010 - just over three years ago. We did, however, mention the
Hyperion Nuclear Power Generator back in 2008. It was
last year though, that we decided the logic of small plants was unassailable.
For all his madness, therefore, Obama is the first Western leader to do the sensible thing about nuclear. And, according to the
National Geographic, this is actually beginning to happen. The first will be up and running by
2022. There is hope for us yet.
